Über diesen Artikel bin ich bei “Olive Reader” (das ist der Blog der Taschenbuchabteilung von Harper Perennial – sehr interessant!) gestolpert. Als Buchhändler steht man ja manchmal vor den Bestsellern und fragt sich: “Ist das eigentlich richtig so?” Man hätte ja gern etwas “anspruchsvolleres” da oben. Was man sich nicht klarmacht, ist die Tatsache, dass solche Dinge auch im Ausland bemerkt werden. Und im schlimmsten Fall das Bild unseres Landes prägen. Wie hier zum Beispiel…
I wish I didn’t know what feuchtgebiete meant
I’ve had this neat article from the Guardian about how you can tell a lot about a country from its bestseller list bookmarked for a while to share. At the end, the author references Feuchtgebiete a bestselling German novel, and says “I’m not sure you’ll want to know what Feuchtgebiete means, or indeed what it reveals about Germany.” Then there’s a wikipedia link.
Feuchtgebiete, not only a bestselling novel in Germany but the world’s bestselling novel in March 2008 (not sure if that’s a verifiable fact), has one of the more interesting plotlines I’ve ever heard of. Click on the link, I’m not sure I can do it justice.

Charlottes (literarischer) Erguss scheint aber noch nicht all zu viel Einfluß auf das deutsche Ansehen in der Welt gehabt zu haben, wie der aktuelle NBI zeigt… (http://www.morgenpost.de/printarchiv/titelseite/article902074/Deutschland_hat_das_beste_Image.html). Wahrscheinlich überschätzt man die Wirkung eines solchen Buches doch, traut man ihm solches zu…. es bestätigt wohl eher schon bestehende Vorurteile oder es wird einfach als das genommen was es ist: ein Versuch, zu provozieren und ein bischen Geld damit zu verdienen…
